In a new documentary called Making Trouble, the Jewish Women's Archive, a nonprofit organization, celebrates funny Jewish women from Sophie Tucker to Gilda Radner. A group of female comedians meet in a diner and punctuate the film's historical bits with their own riffs. Antler recounts that one of them, Judy Gold, had an act filled with Jewish mother jokes. (To wit: I Came, I Saw, I Criticized was the title of her mother's autobiography.) After the Forward scolded Gold for flogging a tired horse, she interviewed Jewish mothers around the country and wove some of their stories into her show. In this clip, though, she sticks to her own childhood.
