The stereotypical Jewish mother shows up in the 2001 movie Kissing Jessica Stein. But she redeems herself. Played by Tovah Feldshuh with just the right inflection and handbag, Jessica's mother is a bossy matchmaker. She knows exactly how to embarrass her daughter, as in this clip. But (spoiler warning) when she realizes that Jessica has fallen in love with a woman, she gives the relationship her blessing. The moment is a welcome relief from the Jewish mother of old: Jessica's mom really does want her to be happy.
