The emergence of such photography has spurred an ongoing debate between traditionalists and photojournalists. The move away from traditional photography has opened up the field to new, less-experienced photographers who have a digital SLR camera and not much else. Traditionalists think the photojournalists are hacks, taking technically weak photos. Who needs a good exposure and skill in posing people when you can claim that pushing the envelope is more your style? But some photographers use artsiness as a cover for pictures of questionable quality, like this one. Technically, it should be dark enough to create a silhouette, or light enough so that you can see the couple's faces—this image lies somewhere in the murky middle.
