
Somehow, nearly 20,000 analyst actions—10 percent of the whole database—weren't entered into the database as they should have been between 1993 and 2002, and nobody noticed? If I had been an analyst blithely stamping buy recommendations on every stock in sight in the late 1990s, I (and my employer) would have wanted to make sure they were included in I/B/E/S at the time. And they were found suddenly some time in 2003 and entered without any announcement?
