The most potent imagery available for machinima is found in Battlefield 2, a game that captures the ballistic speed of warfare from all conceivable angles. The game features American GIs and Humvees as well as the bearded fighters and crescent flag of the newly formed "Middle East Coalition." A Dutch Muslim who goes by the name SonicJihad made this video, which was cited at a 2006 U.S. Intelligence Committee hearing as evidence that al-Qaida was modifying video games to "psychologically condition" recruits to kill coalition forces. SonicJihad says he made it "for fun." This 11-minute clip includes true-to-life suicide bombings and RPG attacks—the opening quote, however, is cribbed from the movie Team America: World Police. ("I was just a boy when the infidels came to my village with their Blackhawk helicopters.") For me, the video's most realistic "jihadist" element is the obsessive repetition of its scenes of destruction.
