 | Of course, you can't copyright a vision, nor can you cordon off a place just because a great shot or two was already taken there. (Otherwise, Michael Wolf wouldn't have squeezed off his Nanpu.) The messy stampede of photographers out there need license to bump up against their predecessors to have a prayer of exceeding them. Which is why it's easy to find curators and art-law experts who think that Bialobrzeski is both a major talent and a bit of a whiner. Everyone knows he did it first and better. Still, in the category of ill-advised griping, it's hard to beat the Zielskes, who, in their counter-campaign against Bialobrzeski, huffily noted that he'd included images of theirs in his e-mail attack—and did not ask for permission. |  |
