After two weeks of modest returns, the Sharks surge ahead on Dec. 5. The following week, San Jose goalie Vesa Toskala turns up out of nowhere with almost 100,000 votes as a write-in candidate. The Sharks somehow manage to net more than three-quarters of a million votes in that week alone; their totals fall off from there.
