In recent years, an array of comics artists has told very different stories about the conflict, from straight-ahead embedded journalism to baldfaced military boosterism. But two of the sharpest comics cloak their stories of the Iraq war in metaphor and fable. Brian Wood's DMZ presents a dystopian vision of New York under siege; Brian K. Vaughan's Pride of Baghdad does away with humans entirely, focusing on a pride of lions loose in war-torn Baghdad.
