The best comics about the Iraq war.

One of the best new comic books about the Iraq war is, oddly enough, set on the streets of New York. In recent years, an array of comics artists has told very different stories about the conflict, from straight-ahead embedded journalism to baldfaced military boosterism. But two of the sharpest comics cloak their stories of the Iraq war in metaphor and fable. Brian Wood’s DMZ presents a dystopian vision of New York under siege; Brian K. Vaughan’s Pride of Baghdad does away with humans entirely, focusing on a pride of lions loose in war-torn Baghdad.
