
Crowley is commonly referred to as a Satanist in media reports and by Hubbard's biographer. Some readers posting in the Fray, however, contend he is better described as a Thelemite, named for the quasi-religious Thelema system he founded in 1904. Thelema has been described as a kind of mystical radical libertarianism.
