A quick note on obesity: For well-off suburban fair-goers, the other attendees are themselves an attraction. I generally try to avoid such condescension but cannot resist the following observation: Stationed throughout the fairgrounds are booths that rent a regular wheelchair for $15 and an electric one for $45. It is not uncommon to see a (usually large) person who is riding in a wheelchair step out in order to better access whatever attraction may hold his or her attention and to walk to it without the slightest difficulty. Apparently, for some, it is not enough to make a meal out of a corn dog and a deep-fried candy bar. It is also necessary to burn as few calories as possible between the two.
