The Audio Book Club ReturnsOur June selection is Philip Roth's latest.
By Andy BowersPosted Monday, June 5, 2006, at 2:35 PM ET
You can find all of Slate's podcasts collected on our new iTunes home page.
When the New York Times Book Review released its list of the best American novels of the last 25 years, Toni Morrison's Beloved came out on top. But if Morrison won the 100-meter dash, Philip Roth won the marathon. When the votes from 125 writers, critics, and editors were tallied, Roth emerged as the most recognized author on the list—six of his novels received votes.
Our next Slate audio book club will take an in-depth look at Roth's latest work, a spare and intense new novel called Everyman. Our critics Stephen Metcalf, Meghan O'Rourke, and Katie Roiphe will discuss both the book and how it fits into Roth's larger body of work. We'll release the audio of their discussion on Wednesday, June 14.
As usual, you'll be able to listen online or to a podcast through our daily podcast feed. We also have a new podcast feed exclusively for the book club (iTunes link here*), where we'll collect all our new and previous discussions. So, if you missed the book club meetings about Joan Didion's The Year of Magical Thinking or Ian McEwan's Saturday, you'll find them there.
Comments? Questions? .
