At one time or another, we all suffer from some form of inflammation often brought on by physical damage. The damage attracts some of the body's defensive cells and triggers them to release materials that are often irritating. The resulting heat, pain, swelling, and redness are as familiar to doctors today as they were to the ancient Roman physicians who described them well.
