
Pediatricians and neonatologists who take care of young and often premature infants make routine use of a form of analgesia that is virtually risk-free: They let babies suck on sugar solutions or nurse during necessary but painful procedures. Surprisingly, sucking on something sweet is a remarkably effective form of pain relief for little ones.
