
A curious finding, by the way, is that in spite of these increased risks, the overall death rate wasn't significantly different between the treated and the untreated women. Perhaps additional mortality due to treatment would have shown up later had the study not been stopped early. Or perhaps the hormone treatment provided some benefit not measured in the study that balanced out the health risks.
