"Coyote" is the common, blanket term for border smugglers. In border usage, however, coyote more accurately refers to the level of men who make arrangements for immigrant crossings. The more accurate word for the people who take groups of immigrants through the desert is "guías" (guides), while the Mexican slang is "polleros" (chicken wranglers).
