At first glance, there seems to be a discrepancy in how much money the FY 2007 budget contains for missile defense; but at second glance, it disappears. A document released by the DoD comptroller titled Program Acquisition Costs by Weapon System states that the Missile Defense budget totals $10.4 billion, up 20 percent from the current year's $8.7 billion. However, the Missile Defense Agency's own budget overview (not yet online) puts the amount for FY07 as $9.3 billion. But this sum does not include $1 billion for two key missile-defense elements that are funded by other services: the Air Force's Space-Based Infrared Systems ($669 million) and the Army's research and development programs to modify Patriot air-defense missiles ($340 million).
