The major networks kick off the new TV season in September, but sweeps months—November, February, May, and July—often feature some of the best programming. Sweeps was developed by AC Nielsen Co. more than 50 years ago in order to set local advertising rates. While only a small portion of networks' revenue comes from local advertisers, networks still spin their story lines around the event, presenting "special" guest stars; life-altering events, such as weddings and births; and gimmicks like tonight's 3-D episode of NBC's Medium. Test your pop-culture knowledge by guessing which TV stars (either character or actor name is acceptable), past and present, are featured below.
