Below, in no particular order, are some of the podcasts your fellow listeners think you might enjoy:
Today Programme, BBC Radio 4
(Podcast feed: http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/rmhttp/downloadtrial/radio4/today/rss.xml)
One segment from Britain's hugely influential morning news radio show. Believe me, you'll never listen to American interviewers the same way again after you've heard John Humphrys tear an MP into little ribbons.
Nextbook: A Gateway to Jewish Literature, Culture & Ideas
(Podcast feed: http://www.nextbook.org/podrss.xml)
This podcast features smart, well-produced interviews with writers (including one with Slate's poetry editor Robert Pinsky).
CBC Radio 3
(Podcast feed: http://www.cbcradio3.com/podcast/)
You won't hear a lot of music on podcasts, primarily because of copyright issues. Here's a podcast with some indie rock from Canada's CBC. (Note that, apparently because of a strike at the network, the most recent episode is hosted by—I kid you not—a computer.)
Simulacrum
(Podcast feed: http://www.listentothestars.co.uk/simulacrum_podcast.xml)
An odd British podcast featuring sometimes foul-mouthed interviews with "big name celebrities." Well, the big names part is true … but I don't recall Paris Hilton sounding quite so much like a British man.
Dubber and Spoons Take the Bus
(Podcast feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/buscast)
Here's a good example of an amateur podcast: no great production values or sound quality, just a curious slice of life. Two guys who work at a university in Birmingham, England, chatter back and forth on their bus trips home. (I like Episode 35, where a BBC TV crew comes on the bus with them.)
Hearing Voices
(Podcast feed: http://www.hearingvoices.com/cast/hvrss.xml)
An independent public radio program.
Newsweek On Air (http://anon.newsweek.speedera.net/anon.newsweek/podcasts/podcast_onair.xml)
A podcast of Newsweek's weekly syndicated radio show (Note: Newsweek, like Slate, is owned by the Washington Post Co.)
Democracy Now!
(Podcast feed: http://www.democracynow.org/podcast_help.shtml#feeds)
The venerable liberal radio show with Amy Goodman.
