Jesus was, after all, a Jew. So, it is no surprise that the Gospel of Luke reports that he was circumcised. Odder, perhaps, is the display of supposed relics of his foreskin in a dozen European churches and abbeys between the 11th and 16th centuries. According to Glick, one of the relics was in the Vatican. It floated in oil in a gold and jeweled reliquary, along with the holy umbilical cord.
