
The clues that an observed phenomenon has a genetic component have mostly come from studies of twins and families. These studies have repeatedly and clearly demonstrated a high degree of heritability for myopia. Scientists are now hovering on the edge of identifying the exact genes—apparently a bunch of them—that play a role.
