
Members of Till's family said that Till had a speech impediment that was mistaken for a whistle. Others say he was whistling at a fancy checker move as he watched two men play outside the store. In an interview with Breland's junior partner, Carolyn Bryant said Till grabbed her hand, asked for date, and whistled at her as she left the store to get a gun from her car.
