Body mass index, or BMI, is a single measurement that incorporates both height and weight and describes relative chubbiness or thinness. BMI isn't perfect since it neglects individual differences in build, bone size, and fat and muscle distribution. But it has the virtue of being easy to calculate and is the best available measurement for looking at the health effects of weight on large populations.
