
Africa, in a rich historical irony, has raised up native bishops who are vociferously chastising their First World brethren for apostasy, particularly on the issue of homosexuality. Such fraternal correction isn't always welcome; when African bishops successfully pressed at a 1998 bishops' conference for a declaration that "homosexual acts were "incompatible with Scripture," they were reportedly compared to "witch doctors" by one liberal bishop.
