In Spider-Man 2, which opens nationwide today, Peter Parker/Spidey (Tobey Maguire) becomes increasingly lovelorn over the decision he made in the first film to spurn the affection of Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). In this 2002 Culturebox, Slate's Chris Suellentrop wrote about Spider-Man's celibate lifestyle and the poor sex lives of superheroes in general.
