Corrections

In the Nov. 10 "In Other Magazines" column, Josh Levin misidentified Sam Houston as an "Alamo hero." Houston, in fact, was not at that battle.

Jack Shafer's Nov. 7 "Press Box" story about Stephen Glass mistakenly dated the publication of his novel, The Fabulist, as August 2003. The book was published in May 2003.

In a Nov. 6 "Sports Nut" column, Allen Barra misstated Bill Parcells' coaching records. He did not take over the 3-12-1 Giants, as Barra stated, and win the Super Bowl in his third season. The Giants went 3-12-1 in Parcells' first season as coach and won the Super Bowl in his fourth. Barra also stated that during Parcells' third season as Patriots coach, the team went 8-5 and went to the Super Bowl. In fact, the team went 6-10 that year. They went to the Super Bowl in his fourth season as Patriots coach.

In the Nov. 6 edition of "Dear Prudence," Margo Howard inadvertently appropriated three sentences from snopes.com, a Web site that debunks urban legends. Slate apologizes to the original author, Barbara Mikkelson. We removed this letter and the response from that week's column.
