The plaza of St.-Germain-des-Prés is one of the cultural centers of Europe. Here Jean Paul Sartre and Simone de Beauvoir smoked and talked Existentialism, while James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway talked and drank at Les Deux Magots, across the street from Paris' oldest church. It's still a hive of activity almost any time, except early in the morning.
