
Dodman once treated a sheep dog who bounded after a cop pursuing a purse snatcher. Though the dog joined in "mostly for the thrill of the chase," the frightened cop—who happened to be black—shot the dog in the head. The dog survived surgery, but thereafter developed night terrors, autophobia, and the fear of sirens, flashing lights, black men, and men in uniform.
