Slate and OPEN from American Express® To Launch New Interactive Features for Small Business
Promotional Section BizBox to Feature Discussion with Sen. John Kerry, Videos Starring Acclaimed Filmmakers
Arlington, Va., August 1, 2007—Slate, the daily online magazine, today announced its special promotional section BizBox will further engage small business owners with new voices including Sen. John Kerry. BizBox, a resource center for small business, is a special section provided by OPEN from American Express®, as part of its advertising campaign on Slate.
As Chair for the Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship, Sen. Kerry will host a live discussion Thursday August 2nd at 2:00 p.m. ET. Users can submit questions in advance by visiting http://bizbox.slate.com.
The resource center will also feature filmmakers Sydney Pollack, Lawrence Bender and Nancy Meyers revealing "how the biz does business" in five OPEN from American Express® video shorts.
The new interactive features will enable users, regardless of their stage in entrepreneurship, to get shrewd insight from leaders on how to grow their business. Small business owners can question Sen. Kerry on legislation, incentives and issues surrounding small business through this unique direct dialogue on BizBox. In the OPEN from American Express® video clips, director Sydney Pollack offers advice on gaining trust among the Hollywood elite, and producer Lawrence Bender shares the publicity strategy that led to the successful OPENing of his film An Inconvenient Truth, among other topics.
"Through our partnership with OPEN from American Express®, BizBox on Slate has become a valuable and enjoyable destination for small business owners," said Cliff Sloan, Publisher, Slate Magazine. "Providing our users with fresh, interactive content and access to experts is an important part of the program."
Launched in November 2006, BizBox continues to receive consistent user participation. Visitors tune into the BizBox blog, where six small business owners—a marketing consultant, art studio owner and founder of a renewable energy company, to name a few—chronicle the ups and downs of being entrepreneurs.
Small business owners can network on BizBox by joining the searchable small business directory. Other BizBox contributions include a calendar of events for small business owners and a regular Q&A with John Jantsch, veteran marketing coach, award winning blogger, and author of Duct Tape Marketing – The World's Most Practical Small Business Marketing Guide.
