Can Bill Parcells Save the Dallas Cowboys?

Bill Parcells signed a four-year, $17.1 million contract Thursday to become the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. It's the fourth moribund franchise Parcells has taken over; he guided the first three—the Giants, Patriots, and Jets—to Super Bowls or conference championship games. In 1997, David Plotz argued that Parcells was a great coach because he was a great dictator. "Other coaches give their players vast freedom. Parcells owns his: They submit their will to the team and to him." But when the Tuna pursued his last NFL job, Gregg Easterbrook warned that "fans should bear in mind what they are getting—a gentleman who cares only, solely, and exclusively about Bill Parcells."
