Alabama State Court
This 5,280-pound, 4-foot monument, designed and surreptitiously installed by Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore. violates the Constitution. While Federal District Judge Myron Thompson insisted his ruling did not invalidate all Decalogue displays, he found Moore's own words did him in. At the monument's unveiling Moore hoped this day would bring "a return to the knowledge of God in our land." Thompson found the monument's appearance blatantly religious, and because of its "sacred aura" Thompson wasn't surprised some passers-by dropped to their knees and prayed upon seeing it.
