Strom Thurmond's 100^th Birthday

Sen. Strom Thurmond turns 100 today, an event that has been greeted with all the usual nonsense about the South Carolina Republican's magnificent lifetime of service. In this "Assessment" of Thurmond and fellow Sen. Jesse Helms, David Plotz argued we should save our celebrations for January, when these two rotten old Carolinians finally leave the Senate.
