One such statement came from Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Speaking on NBC's Today show in August, he said that some weapons of mass destruction "are easily hid, and any kind of inspection regime would probably not reveal them." Also in August, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld pointedly attributed the success of the first round of U.N. inspections in Iraq to a lucky break (prior to which "they couldn't find much of anything"). Vice President Cheney has of course been similarly dismissive.
