Ex-Sotheby’s chief Diana “Dede” Brooks was sentenced to three years of probation, including six months of house arrest, for her role in a price-fixing scheme. Does house arrest prevent her from hosting a dinner party?
No. House arrest requires Brooks to stay in her residence unless excused by her probation officer. She’ll wear an electronic device around her ankle that will alert the probation officer from a stationary receiver installed in the home if she strays outside range. She will be allowed out only for pre-approved exemptions such as work, religious services, doctor’s appointments, or community service.
But Brooks can entertain as many visitors inside her home as she wants. And if her Upper East Side apartment isn’t big enough, she can choose to serve her sentence at her $4 million oceanfront home in Hobe Sound, Fla.
