51. ROBERT and NANCY DEDMAN$7 million through their family foundation to FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY for the college of business from the founder and board chairman of ClubCorp and his wife.

51. DONALD D. HEDBERG and FAMILY$7 million to CARTHAGE COLLEGE (Wis.) to pay half the cost of a new high-tech library. Hedberg sold his company, Lab Safety Supply of Janesville, in 1992.

51. JAMES V. KIMSEY$7 million to the ASSOCIATION OF GRADUATES OF THE U.S. MILITARY ACADEMY at West Point, N.Y. Kimsey is co-founder and chairman emeritus of America Online.

51. HARRIET L. and PAUL M. WEISSMANa total of $7 million: a $4 million donation to MOUNT HOLYOKE COLLEGE (Mass.) for the Weissman Center for Leadership. Also, $3 million to HARVARD UNIVERSITY (Mass.) for the library. Paul Weissman worked for 41 years at the investment banking firm Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. and is now a managing director emeritus.

56. TOM and CINDA HICKS$6.8 million to ST. MARK'S SCHOOL OF TEXAS for a new athletic center to be known as the Hicks Family Athletic Center and for endowment purposes.

57. BLAKE and NANCY RONEY—a pledge of up to $6.7 million to STANFORD UNIVERSITY (Calif.). Blake Roney is the co-founder and chairman of Nu Skin Enterprises.

58. HOWARD L. and JOYCE WOOD—a $6.6 million commitment to WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY (Mo.) for the John M. Olin School of Business. Howard Wood is the co-founder of Charter Communications Inc. and a longtime partner in the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co. Joyce Wood is the owner of Wood and Associates, a management consulting firm.

59. THE HOM FAMILY—a gift of land valued at more than $6.3 million to the SAN DIEGO FOUNDATION. The Tom Hom Group is made up of more than 30 business entities and is the Hom family's major investment arm.

60. JOHN and SUSAN SYKESa total of $6.1 million: $5.1 million to QUEENS COLLEGE in Charlotte, N.C. Also, $1 million to the UNITED WAY OF PINELLAS COUNTY (Fla.). John Sykes is the chief executive of Tampa-based computer support company Sykes Enterprises Inc.
