15. WINSTON and MAXINE WALLIN$10 million over five years in scholarship money to MINNEAPOLIS PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Wallin is a retired executive of Medtronic, a medical-device manufacturer.

15. ARTHUR and JUDY ZANKEL$10 million to CARNEGIE HALL (N.Y.). Arthur Zankel is co-managing partner of First Manhattan Corp. and a director of Citigroup.

44. JOHN and CHRISTY MACK$9.95 million to DUKE UNIVERSITY (N.C.) from the president of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co. and his wife.

45. LEON and BILLYE MATULA$9.6 million to OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY. Leon Matula is the president of Leon's Radio Inc. and L.B.B. Management Inc.

46. ABRAHAM and MAYER MITCHELL$8.2 million to the UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA for the endowment and for scholarships at the Mitchell College of Business from these brothers and partners in the Mitchell Co., a real-estate development firm.

47. LASZLO TAUBERa total of $8 million: $5 million to GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY (Washington, D.C.) to endow scholarships in the school of medicine and the school of public health. Also, $3 million to BOSTON UNIVERSITY to endow a professorship and scholarships at the school of medicine from this Potomac, Md., surgeon and real-estate owner.

49. JOHN and REBECCA MOORES$7.5 million to SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY. John Moores, the founder of BMC Software, owns the San Diego Padres.

50. MICHAEL and SUSAN DELLa total of $7.4 million: a $1 million challenge gift to the UNITED WAY/CAPITAL AREA COMMUNITY FUND, which supports 47 health and human-services organizations in central Texas. Also, $3 million to ST. ANDREW'S EPISCOPAL SCHOOL to help build a new high-school campus in southwest Austin and $1.9 million to INSURE A KID, a partnership between the Seton Healthcare Network and Texas Healthy Kids. The gift paid for a public education and outreach campaign. In addition, the Dells helped to pay insurance premiums until May, when the Children's Health Insurance Program started. Also another $500,000 to the Austin Public Library for Wired for Use to create 10 computer outreach center in libraries throughout Austin. Michael Dell is CEO of Dell Corp. Susan Dell is president of Susan Dell Inc., an upscale women's clothing marketer.
