Obviously, with sufficient willpower, people can overcome their inclinations. And, while my comparison of Clinton and Nixon suggests no necessary correlation between resisting sexual temptation and resisting the temptation to subordinate principle to power, there may be some correlation. Certainly the premise of many religious traditions is that the most successful assault on any of various animal temptations is a coherent assault on many or all of them.
