The only supporting evidence Huntington provides for this assertion about "the Asians" involves the behavior of the Chinese government. But the Chinese government is still loaded with vestigial Communist impulses. It still tells blatant lies to its people and the world, just as Soviet communists did. In recent years officials in South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan--all of them "Asians"--have shown no comparable pattern of dishonorable behavior when they sign agreements that are clear and unambiguous. Indeed, one recent squabble with Japan--over whether it would keep agreeing to "numerical goals" in trade--came because Japan had been meeting the specific goals it agreed to and was sick of doing so. Note, by the way, how Huntington here speaks of "Asians," even though his model supposedly breaks East and Southeast Asia up into "Sinic," "Japanese," and "Buddhist" civilizations. Odd.
