Nothing Else Matters Except the New Yorker

Marjorie,

I'm afraid I'm going to be a New Yorker bore again. I haven't read the papers yet (yes, that was ME reading The Lorax to Alice and preparing Willie's lunch for camp while you were luxuriating with the papers and coffee in bed this morning).

The news this morning is that Si Newhouse offered the editorship to Michael Kinsley, editor of this esteemed publication, over the weekend; that Kinsley, strongly interested, said he needed to discuss it with his masters at Microsoft before definitely saying yes; and that Newhouse then withdrew the offer. (Note to readers: No, I haven't communicated with Kinsley about any of this.)

Now I hear, via usually informed sources, that David Remnick has just been named New Yorker editor.
