Well, now that it's our final meeting over the breakfast table, I guess I can unburden myself. Please stop eating just the crusts and leaving the poor clumps of dough on--No, I'm sorry, that's my wife.

I think overnight I got a glimpse of Mayor Giuliani's larger vision. May I share? Times Square has been revivified thanks only to the kind attentions of the Disney company. Mayor Rudy clearly believes that continuing Disney investment requires the Main Streetification of the city--clean, nice, quiet cabbies, no beggars, no vendors, no street life. We thought "New York as a theme park" was just a bad metaphor; Rudy thinks it's the future.

Finally, that long winning streak came to an end. Not the Bulls, Ken Starr's unbeaten record in court. We've been in a remarkably Monica-free zone here, you and I these last three weeks, but I must say I'm beginning to recognize Alan Dershowitz's TV m.o. At the beginning of the O.J. Simpson case, he was all over the tube, berating Robert Shapiro's early moves, suggesting that Simpson needed an attorney of, shall we say, a certain stature, perhaps a certain Boston address. Now comes Dershowitz to lead the denunciations of Bill Ginsburg, to suggest that some fine lawyering might save the day for Miss L. Unfortunately for him, the family took his advice. I don't know whose Washington appearance this week was more glibly self-serving, Bill Ginsburg's farewell address in the Post or Matt Drudge's bar mitzvah at the Press Club.
