I too have much to be thankful for. Mostly I'm not thankful. Once in a great while, pulling into the driveway, or starting out for a long run, I'll think, "This is it, kid. Your life." Mostly it doesn't seem that way. This is a practice set, a warm up. And boy am I going to be good! Right now I'm a little bored.

The Dow is up 80-something points. That's good, I suppose. We're expecting a meteor shower. That's bad. So we'll all be rich, but dead.

There's a transportation section at the Borders on Park Avenue. It has a table. Fully half of the books on the table feature representations of the Titanic. If the market does collapse, it'll be easy to say "I told you so."

I got a letter today from an old friend. He writes, "When we die, let's all go to Italy."

In a heartbeat.

I'm still waiting to be born.
