It is apocryphal that certain breeds of dogs, such as the smooth Chihuahua, don't offend allergy sufferers because they don't shed much hair. With animal allergies the key is the animal's saliva, which is released into the air when it breathes. In addition, animals shed flecks of skin that also carry allergy-producing proteins.
