Of course, the theory of natural selection itself is compatible with some notions of "divine input"—the idea that natural selection was set in motion by some higher intelligence, whether a God or a bunch of extraterrestrials or whatever. In fact, I myself have argued that, for all we know, evolution could have been set in motion by some intelligent being for some as yet unrealized purpose.
