"Because of an editing error, an article on Tuesday about the court case in Chile against Gen. Augusto Pinochet misidentified the ocean into which the military apparently dumped the father of Viviana Diaz, a woman who leads a group of surviving family members. It was the Pacific, not the Atlantic."--The New York Times, Feb. 3, 2001 (Thanks to Professor John Hart Ely, University of Miami School of Law.)

Reader Comments From The Fray:
I for one would like to think that the NYTimes article was right the first time, and that Pinochet's--what? Pinochistas? Pinot Noirs?--were merely enterprising enough to cover their tracks by dumping the guy over in Argentina's EEZ [Exclusive Economic Zone] instead. ("No, look, see, he's over there, take it up with Evita...")

Maybe I might be able to interest the editor [responsible] in an Arctic penguin, or a South African grizzly bear.
