Newsweek's "Exclusive"
Posted Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997, at 6:23 PM ETThe current issue of Newsweek boasts of "Exclusive excerpts from the LBJ tapes." Chatterbox wonders when "exclusive" became a synonym for "previously appeared in another publication." Slate's own "LBJ Sounds Off," posted Aug. 23, includes some of the same conversations for which Newsweek prints transcripts. The difference: Slate lets you actually hear the conversations. This last feature is, how shall we say, exclusive, to the online realm.
