Re: Sonnet Watch: Day 5
If only sonnets weren't so fin de siecle, so passe, so je ne sais quoi, so plus ca change, plus ca c'est la meme chose. Because other than all that verbiage in francais, it shows only a bead or two of sweat compared to the soaked clothing of the severely overworked ''Watch''. Nice job once again, Foobs. How about dropping by my thread? I put in a ...

Re: Seriously, WTF am I supposed to do with this?
MaryAnn:Alas, foobs, the sonnet form does not lend itself to a jazz riff. MA But it lends itself well to a scathing critique of a jazz riff from a classicist's point of view. :) wr ()()

Re: ♫ "Oh, I'm Tangled Up In Blue" ♫
...and that much, certainly, was intentional! The lack of relationship between ''Blues'' and your sonnet, that is. Either this week's poem is totally confusing or I am totally confused (or both), so I shall jump off this train now whether it's stopped or not. wr ()()

Re: ♫ "Oh, I'm Tangled Up In Blue" ♫
I am grateful for your kindnessand though hate to disagree;if I made sense of the poemit was unintentionally! And of course you're right. In 20/20 hindsight I see that I read your perfectly sensible narrative into a poem that had nothing to do with what your sonnet said (unless you meant to imply that the poem was a disaster)...and that much, ...

Pretty much what you did with it...
...which is virtually nothing. :) On second thought, you did a lot with it...or rather to it. Judgment on the world juxtaposed with judgment on a poem: this may set a new local record for ''damning with faint praise''. Check out my parody of ''Blues'' and let me know what you think of it. wr ()()

Re: The Sonnets
Sire, I was thinking of trotting out a parody based on ''Clementine'', but I haven't had the time to try one. No need -- you, Artemesia and others don't need me to help you deal with this thing. Your obedient servant,The Court Jester P.S.: I see that someone took out my self-referencing tag, and my tags for you and some others. It's probably ...

Rhyming Sun Tzu's "The Art of War"
MaryAnn:King Foobs, you may claim to be well versed in the great art of war, but can you rhyme Sun Tzu or Clausewitz? MA Well, Foobs, if you want to try to put Sun Tzu's The Art of War into rhyme, here's your chance. MaryAnn, if Foobs is sufficiently struck by what he reads on that page, then he will rhyme some of it -- depend on it. :) It is ...

Re: Unblessed Sonnet
Foobs:Winter came like whispers of regreteach breath like knives, I cringed with every cut;the world was smothered, left to wait for deaththe streets were still, the doors and windows shut. There were no clouds to dance across the sky, just a shroud of unrelenting gray;we're lost to heaven, left alone to die, blinded by the snow and cursed to ...

Re: Planting Limericks
There are many, it seems, who rejoicefor this poem with bliss in their voice, but instead of an ''ah!''it just makes me say ''blah'':now a sonnet, my formal first choice! (...) ------------------------------- With what skill I haveI've written what I've written:it is what it is. Hi Foobs, I confess that we'll have to go our separate ways on ...

Re: Body of Sonnet
Nicely done. As is so often true around here, the Tuesday Offering is so close to what it should be and yet so far. Write whatever the author was aiming at in a way that makes conscious sense, or else don't write it at all -- but please, no half measures that try to evoke the life of the subconscious but end up mostly evoking headaches, a desire ...
