  • Is it the Gabfest 2nd Anniversary?

During the closing seconds of this weeks Gabfest, John mentioned that a listener informed the Gabbers that its their 2nd anniversary and they weren't sure if it was. I looked into the matter, and this is what I found. 1. In the ''Slate's Complete Podcast Archive'' page the first Gabfest listed is Nov 4, 2005 2. Doing a search for ''Gabfest'', ...

  • Re: Emily Eating Chocolate...

John Eating Hamburgers...David Eating Potato Chips...Now that I have your attention... Come on, whats up with the subject title? If your looking for a group photo, I don't know about that. But if you want to know what the Gabbers look like out of curiosity, let me give you the Dr. Zaius warning. ''Don't look for it, ... You may not like what you ...

  • Reclining seats

The author says that car seats should be designed not go back no more than 10 degrees, and the car companies are being difficult for not making this change. While this could prevent severe injury or death, it's about as practical as saying nobody can swim in the ocean because there are sharks there. It's a noble idea, but people just ...

  • So Called Common Sense

I find it amazing that even someone who is educated enough to write opinion pieces for Slate thinks that they can breeze through life without ever thinking for themselves and rely on everyone else to insure their own safety and well being. Also, just because there have been lawsuits in the past which back you up only proves that there are more ...

  • Seat Belt Smarts

You did something stupid and now you are writing an article in a vain attemp at proving that you were not wrong. You probably want warning signs on stoves that say ''caution - may remain hot after turned off''. You are lucky that you didn't slide under the belt.

  • Re: Enough already

Look, very few people actually read their owners manual (as has been said many times here). The point of it having been said is that most people are not like you. Maybe there should be a separate PSA that tells people to read their manual. Really, though, there is a lot (I mean a lot) of information in the manual, and most of it will never be of ...

  • Enough already

Where to begin...first of all, let me say that I am sorry Emily Bazelon was injured in the accident. I myself was in a car accident in 2003 and it is a dreadful experience, no matter the circumstances (I was not injured nearly to the degree she was, was driving, alone in the car, seat upright). Almost every post in the Fray related to this article ...

  • Gabfest -- Bring back the August 2007 "B-team", please!

I have been listening to the Gabfest since its inception, but have never been moved to comment until now, largely because I felt that whatever gripes I might have with it were offset by the fact that it was free. However, at the beginning of the August 10 Gabfest, Jacob Weisberg, substituting for the regular crew (who are on vacation for the ...

  • The reign of David 'The Impaler' Plotz is over

Rejoice Slate staffers for the great fearless leader Jacob Weisberg has returned. David Plotz ruled with an iron fist. I know he instantly rejected a big article on Big Foot. What a big meanie! Alright, I'm just kidding around. But I did notice an anomaly when I listened to some recent Gabfest episodes again. As most of us know, Emily usually goes ...

  • Gabfest Team please help my education

I was very interested in your section today on the debate over Executive Privilege, but I'm rather confused by the Constitutional origination of the idea. I know that certain things are tacked on to the commerce clause to justify any number of things, but I reread Articles I and II this morning and I didn't see anything that jumped out as ''this ...
