  • Is Denny "anti-intellectual" by Wikipedia's definition?

Hi Waltz, Long time no see! Summarizing your quote from Wikipedia: ''Anti-intellectualism...may be expressed in various ways, such as attacks on the merits of science, education, art, or literature.'' I have an honest question here. Where does Denny attack the merits of any of these things at any time? If you have clear evidence, I'd like to ...

MaryAnn: We've faced such Self-Important Poems and their Self-Important Authors all too often here on Poems Fray, much more so in the past than currently, but all too frequently when Mr. Pinsky has put up. Rabbit, a few weeks ago when Robert Pinsky presented his monthly classic poem, he was available to all posters for, I think, four whole ...

denny: In defense of White Rabbit - he has been extremely busy with his own writing, and reserves what time he can for commenting on the Tuesday poem when he considers it worthwhile. (or maybe I'm White Rabbit). Thanks, Den. Most regrettably, there is just no way that I can follow up on all the responses to my own comments, even the responses ...

Apparently the ''previous edition'' of the book you cite is still in print as The Wordsworth Rhyming Dictionary, which I own, and through which I first encountered Espy's poetry. The book is a splendid work on every level. wr ()()

Hi Denny, Nice discussion! Glad you picked this direction to go. Espy's compilation of rhyming words etc. is currently in print as The Wordsworth Rhyming Dictionary, which I own. Perhaps this is the ''previous edition'' mentioned in the review you cite. Anyway, it is indeed a stunning tome. wr ()()

But if so, shouldn't that be ''the part of me that hadn't been breathing''? wr ()()

  • P.S.: A textbook case of archetypes in action

It occurs to me that my response, in what I said and how I said it, is a textbook example of Jungian psychology (via John Beebe's theory of archetypes ) in action. Here an ENFP engages his supportive, decision-making capacity based on personal values in a Good Parent role (that's the archetype): a role with a particular tone of voice that brooks ...

  • A kosher Chinese restaurant...?

What, no reaction to my HOTR parody, even from you? (Maybe that art form has played out around here.) I would love to find a kosher Chinese restaurant (or at least one that matched the biblical dietary laws of clean and unclean, holy and common: not precisely the same thing). I'd take up the culinary arts just so I could open and run one. wr ...

  • So do I...

I'm getting a little surprised at the reactions to this poem. There's nothing commonplace or ''prosy'' about it. It is narrative poetry. wr ()()
