Re: A few less "F-words" . .
by waltz and capsize

denny,

I had only mentioned "a few less F words." I didn't qualify my observation nor did I condemn the use of F words. So my comments are not intended to defend or explain a stance I didn't take:

When i posted the April run of pocket poems, Kim Addonizio's The First Line is the Deepest was an immediate search hit. I didn't use it. Thirty poems (perhaps 28) and I didn't use it.

I spent a good part of the nineties (at least till '96) attending/ facilitating/ organizing/ or reading at poetry readings several times a month (if not several times some weeks.) I'm unimpressed with Kim Addonzio's the vid from the Bowery; I'm neither shocked nor appreciative. I've heard more offensive stuff (some alarming) and I've heard better. Kim Addonizio's F words were not here used to good effect.

(I did eventually quit my participation in poetry readings because I got to feeling like I couldn't wash it off when the day was done. And because when raw and edgy become mundane, it's not raw and edgy any more. Instead, it's merely noise.)
