Goldeneye on Nintendo 64

Didn't seem to allow multiple players, but it did have a player vs player mode. It was, in retrospect, fascinating to watch genial Christian hippie types turn into trash-talking, homicidal maniacs the instant the game started.

I actually didn't run into that sort of thing on the MUDs I used to play, but I made a point of going it alone whenever practical.

The worst was when you'd play with someone that memorized the map's resurrection areas and who would just execute you continually as you respawned. Not good times. Bad times.

And there was always one jerk who would pick Oddjob despite the gentleman's agreement not to.

Or 4-player split screen on the Complex level with proximity mines and one-hit kills. Madness!
